New data on the flora of the Vértes Mts. and phytogeographycal observations about the region are presented. The western part is linked to Transdanubicum with many species frequnent the Transdanubian flora (Cerastium sylvaticum, Crepis paludosa, Cyclamen purpurascens, Knautia drymeia, Petrorhagia saxifraga, Thymus serpyllum, Cerastium arvense, Spergula pentandra). In contrast the eastern and southern parts are rich in submediterran elements (Amelanchier ovalis, Convolvulus cantabrica, Ononis pusilla and Pisum elatius). Long valleys runnig from NW to SE connect these two parts. Here both species of the western part (Corydalis intermedia, Geranium phaeum, Knautia drymeia) and some of the eastern part (Aethionema saxatile, Artemisia alba, Cytisus ratisbonensis, Daphne cneorum, Hornungia petraea, Seseli leucospermum) can be found. The valleys also preserve some subalpine, alpine relicts, such as Aquilegia vulgaris, Carduus glaucus, Lilium martagon subsp. alpinum, Ranunculus nemorosus and Viola collina. Unlike in the adjacent Gerecse Mts., loess is a subordinated substrate in the Vértes being restricted only the south-eastern foothills. Its occurrence is indicated by Anthriscus caucalis, Aster amellus, Astragalus austriacus, Brassica elongata, Bupleurum rotundifolium, Campanula cervicaria, Cerasus fruticosa, Cirsium pannonicum, Echium russicum, Euphorbia pannonica, Linum flavum, Peucedanum alsaticum, Prunus tenella, Salvia austriaca and Tordylium maximum. Sandy soils, widespread especially in the western part, are indicated by Peucedanum oreoselinum, Pulsatilla nigricans, Scorzonera purpurea, Senecio integrifolius. Species characteristic to the plain regions of Mezõföld (Bupleurum tenuissimum, Hibiscus trionum, Lycopus exaltatus, Lythrum virgatum, Seseli varium, Teucrium scordium) are totally missing from hilly regions of Vértes.
