This is a preliminary study of bryoflora of Fertõ Hills. Bryophyte vegetation of major vegetation types and bryologically important localities of the region are discussed and completed with a list of 131 species. Compared to earlier studies 45 species have been proved new to the region (e.g. Dicranum montanum, Sanionia uncinata), 46 species have been confirmed, whereas the occurrence of 40 species hasn' t been confirmed. Drepanocladus revolvens [cossonii], a Red List species in Europe has been confirmed while the existence of Drepanocladus sendtneri (legally protected in Hungary) and Drepanocladus [Hamatocaulis] vernicosus (European Red List species) has not been confirmed. The reason for the extinction of many species can be degradation of their natural habitat (e.g. reed spreading on rich fens).
