A Cuscuta approximata Babington Magyarországon (Cuscutaceae Dumort.)

Cuscuta approximata Babington can be considered as a novum in the Hungarian Flora. A small population of this paleosubtropical dodder-species was found in an acidophilous oak wood of Jakab-hegy near Pécs in the Mecsek mountains on permian sandstone bedrock. This species is not a new element of the Hungarian Flora. It was discovered by Á. Degen and Z. Zsák. in the rocky grasslands of Remete-hegy near Mária-Remete (Budapest) in the Mountains of Buda at first time (Zsák 1941: 15.). The preparated stems can be found in the Herbarium Carpato-Pannonicum collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum. The collectors determined the species as C. planiflora Ten. (Zsák 1941: 15.) and C. cupulata Engelm. l. urceolata Kze. (Degen). Other dissected stems were found in the Herb. Carpato-Pann. collection of the HNHM too, which can be treated as new data of C. approximata from Transsylvania (Romania, County: Cluj, Cluj-Napoca: Gella-hegy, 1943.07.17. – Kárpáti Zoltán).

The new habitat of C. approximata is a semi-natural stand of an acidophilous shrub-woodland community, called Genisto pilosae-Quercetum polycarpae (A.O. Horvát 1967) Borhidi et Kevey 1996 (Borhidi 1996: 122.). The host-plant of C. approximata is Genista pilosa L. in the Mecsek mountains and was Acinos arvensis (Lam.) Dandy, Euphorbia cyparissias L., Galium glaucum L., Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce, Seseli osseum Cr., an Erysimum L. and a Lamiaceae species (may be Stachys recta) in the Mountains of Buda.

This publication contains a new key of some Cuscuta species, the thousand-seed weight, the indicator values and the social behavior type of the C. approximata, which can be inserted into the recent hungarian flora work (Simon 2000: 340-341.) and databases (Borhidi 1993, Csontos 2001).
