Kivonat:

There are sandstone outcrops from the Oligocene age in the environment of the town Salgótarján attributed with various chemical and physical features.

The studied area with a peculiar flora extends from Cserhát to Heves-Borsod Hills. This region lies at the Northern limits of the distribution of submediterranean species. The local flora has developed under the influence of human activities and varied surface shapes formed by erosion and derasion.

The deep and nerrow valleys have saved some Carpathian and mountainous elements (e.g. Petasites albus, Prenanthes purpurea, Dentaria glandulosa), while on the southern rock outcrops and slopes submediterranean species (e.g. Allium moschatum, Ononis pusilla, Seseli hippomarathrum, Scabiosa canescens, Trigonella monspeliaca) grow. Sandstone is quickly crumbling away physically, and on its sandy detritus the flora similar to the arid vegetation of the Duna-Tisza Middlerange sand hills (e.g. Fumana procumbens, Alyssum montanum subsp. gmelinii, Onosma arenarium).

Presumably the  rock vegetation is quite young, and its present extension is due to the influence of human activities.
