The first chapter of this study povides an outlined presentation of the genesis and significance of WALDSTEIN, F.A. and KITAIBEL Pál’s nature-descriptive work “Descriptiones et Icones plantarum rariorum Hungariae” (Vienna, 1802-1812) discovering the flora of the Hungarian Empire; a work in three volumes, the first to become appreciated abroad. The second chapter gives a revised list of species of the book describing 280 plants in detail. All names of plants, authors and taxons valid at present are also included.
