Micro-relief – through the level of groundwater – is an important vegetation-shaping factor in inundation areas. This connection was studied in two near-natural forests of Drava Lowland using GIS software MAPINFO 3.0. Classical zonation pattern was proved quantitatively: softwood gallery forests, hardwood gallery forests and lowland hornbeam-oak forests can be found on even higher places; moor forests are on the same level as softwood groves: they can be separated by another ecological factor (oxygen content of water). Types inside of hardwood gallery forests and hornbeam-oak forests are separated too.
