In this paper we made efforts to compare the vegetation of loess grasslands of two different sampling areas of Hungary by using multivariate methods. The theoretical approach was based on the classical Fitocoenological School of Braun-Blanquet. The aim of the work was to describe main nodes in the vegetation and to identify them using the related literature. The relevés were divided into 14 groups according to the hierarchical classification, and then were analysed by correspondence-analysis. It was proved that there are two inherently different types of loess vegetation according to the topography of the landscape, which clearly posses separating and diagnosing species; and these two types replicate themselves in space and time. The identification and description of these types were undoubtedly found in the related literature. There are some transitional types between these two main groups, labelled either their own characteristic species, either the mixture of the characteristic species of the two major types. These transitional types are adequately documented, nevertheless there were a few cases, when no references were found.
