The article is dealing with the bryogeography of the Nyírség (NE Hungary). Some important difference has been found between the bryofloras of the North-Eastern (Nyírség, Szatmár-Bereg Plain) and the South-Westren (Tiszántúl) parts of the Great Hungarian Plain. The number of species in the Nyírség is higher because the forest-dweller mosses are widespread in this area. Compering these regions the number of the boreal elements is higher but the number of the submediterran elements is lower in the North-Eastern part. The boreal and suboceanic elements (arboreal species) reached the Nyírség from the Carpathians. A strong connection can be seen between the SE Carpatians and the investigated area, and the author thinks to be possible to divide a new biogeographical unit including the Nyírség and the Szatmár-Bereg Plain.
