Some natural populations of white-flowered Narcissus can be found on South-West Transdanubia (Hungary). It is worth to pay attention to their conservation, maintenance and to study their micro-evolutionary processes. Comparative morphometric studies of the flowers were done in 1999 and 2000 to distinguish the distribution  of certain ancestral  features of N. poëticus and N. stellaris.

The studied populations of N. poëticus and N. stellaris occur sporadically but have not been genetically isolated from each other and from the cultivated and renaturalized individuals. The population of Basakert (ruins of a Turkish settlement near Babócsa, Somogy county) is definitely characterized by N. poëticus features showing the trails of domesticated lines  from the 16th century. The Pre-Alpine populations (Vas and Zala counties) are dominated by N. stellaris features, nevertheless, the morphological pattern of gene-flow between the two ancestrals are estimated. It is necessary to protect the populations against genetical erosion and habitat degradation.
