The authors summarize the most important features of the moss and liverwort collection of the University of Debrecen (DE). The collection consists of 2461 specimens out of which 2348 specimens are from the Carpathian Basin. It represents 46 liverwort species (149 specimen) and 227 moss species (2152 specimen). The specimen with a largest number were collected in Hajdú-Bihar-, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg-, Veszprém-, Győr-Moson-Sopron-, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties (Hungary) and Transsylvania (Romania). The collection arose between 1933 and 1951. Before 1933 and after 1951 just very few specimen were added. Although, the collection is not large, from the viewpoint of science history is important, because the students of Rezső Soó created it, mainly Lajos Felföldy and József Igmándy. Furthermore, the collection provides many data to the bryophyte flora of Debrecen, Hajdúnánás, Tiszavasvári (eastern part of Hungary) and Kolozsvár (at present Cluj-Napoca, central part of Transsylvania).
