The author gives an account on floristical observations in the hills of Karancs, Medves and Cerová Vrchovina situated at the border of Hungary and Slovakia. Over 1200 species were identified during the  research of the area wandered until 1998, and the literature was checked too. Fagetalia species underline the mountainous character of the area, the earlier presence of a submountainous beech belt and the proximity of the Carpathians. Other species show the relic preserving character of the basalt rock of particular geomorphology.
