Changes in farming practices during the last decades have resulted in the severe decline of thearable weeds in Europe. This review shows the effects of seed cleaning, discontinuance of certain crops, intensification of soil cultivation, the increase of fertilising-level, liming and chemical weed control on weed flora and vegetation. Preserving measures such as protected field margins, extensive field management, and arable flora reserves are introduced. The effects of biological farming practices and set aside on rare arable plants are also presented.
